There’s nothing better than curling up on the sofa in front of the TV with a big bag of potato chips. Nor is any NFL or NBA party complete without a few bowls of crunchy chips on the table for you and your guests to enjoy during the game. But, as we all know, potato chips aren’t the most nutritious food.

And if you’re trying to lose a few pounds or just trying to eat clean, then finding a tasty, healthy alternative to potato chips is a fantastic idea. All the snacks on our list give you the same crunch and flavor of the best potato chips, but they’re made from different fruits and vegetables, making them a healthier alternative. Here they are – the ten tasty snacks that are healthier than potato chips:

Tomato Chips

Dried Tomato Chips

It might sound strange, but you can make a healthy alternative to potato chips with tomatoes. All you need is a dehydrator. Then you can turn a combination of Roma tomatoes, salt, pepper, and dried basil into a gorgeous snack full of Vitamin C. Tomato chips won’t require any salsa either, as you’ll get that tangy, tomato goodness just from the chips themselves.

Peach Chips

Once again, you’ll need a dehydrator to turn peaches into chips, but that’s it. The great thing about peach chips is that they don’t need to be baked or fried. You simply need to dehydrate the raw peaches, and you get a crunchy, tasty snack that is far better for you than potato chips.

Banana Chips

You want to make sure that you get bananas that are ripe (but not too ripe) to make these baked banana chips. It’s not the easiest snack to make at home, but with a little practice, you’ll get it down, and then you’ll get all the benefits of bananas – potassium being one of them – while you eat this tasty snack.

Sweet Potato Chips

When you go to a restaurant these days, you’ll find an option to switch your potato fries for sweet potato fries. Health-conscious people always go for this option. Why? Sweet potatoes contain fewer calories and carbohydrates than regular potatoes. There’s no difference with sweet potato chips, which are a superb alternative to potato chips.

Zucchini Chips

There’s no complicated recipe required to make zucchini chips. You need to slice your zucchini thinly, put some breadcrumbs and parmesan on top, and then pop them into your oven on a wire rack (with a baking sheet underneath to catch any juices) and voila! The addition of parmesan makes these a delicious snack that tastes a lot less healthy than it is.

Swiss Chard Chips

Swiss Chard Chips

These are a healthy and easy-to-make snack that is far better for you than potato chips. All you need is some swiss chard. Then you cut it up into even squares that are about the same size as standard potato chips. Toss the chard in some extra virgin olive oil. Then pop some salt and pepper on them. If you want to get a kick out of them, then put a bit of chili powder on top, and maybe some garlic powder, too. Then you can put them in your oven at 275f for 40 minutes, and you’ve got yourself some swiss chard chips.

Mushroom Chips

Mushroom Chips

That’s right. You can even make a tasty potato chip alternative with mushrooms. You just need to get some king oyster mushrooms. Then you could do with some avocado oil or some ghee. Besides these ingredients, you only need some salt and pepper to season them. To make the mushroom chips, use a mandoline slicer to slice the mushroom, then pop them into the over with the oil on top, and that’s it.

Plantain Chips

Healthy Homemade Plantain Chips

Plantain chips give you that perfect combination of sweet and spicy. You should just get your hands on some not-quite-ripe plantains. Besides the plantains, some chili powder, brown sugar, and cayenne pepper are all you need, besides cocoa powder to make them special. They can be made via baking in the oven, and you don’t need a dehydrator to make these tasty potato chips alternatives.

Kale Chips

Homemade Green Kale Chips

Kale is a favorite food of the health-conscious around the world. So, it may surprise you that you can make a crunchy, tasty snack out of it. Not only are kale chips incredibly simple to make, but they are also very quick to make. You can rustle up some kale chips in less than five minutes if you want, which is great if you realize that one your friends who are coming over for the game is on keto and can’t eat any carbs, which potato chips are, and kale chips certainly aren’t.

Pineapple Chips

Dried pineapple

All you need to make pineapple chips is a pineapple, some lemon juice, and some salt. That’s it. Of course, you’ll also need a dehydrator, but once you’ve tried these potato chips alternatives, then you’ll want to make them over and over again, making a dehydrator a solid purchase. You can combine these pineapple chips with some home-made guacamole for a delicious snack.

Conclusion

There are so many great alternatives to potato chips that are much healthier for you. Some will require a dehydrator, whereas others won’t require anything more than the ingredients and an oven. All the snacks on this list are easy to make, taste great, will be much kinder to your body than potato chips – they contain fewer calories too.
