Beefsteak Tomatoes, Mozzarella and Basil

Classic Italian flavors that pair so perfectly together. Even better, you don’t have to turn on the oven for this easy side dish.Notes:

  1. Look for the balsamic syrup in the vinegar aisle.

Ingredients

Produce

  • Beefsteak Tomatoes — 1
  • Fresh Basil — 5 Leaves

Cheese & Lunchmeat

  • Buffalo Mozzarella Ball — 1⁄2 Pound

Spice & Baking

  • Black Pepper
  • Kosher Salt

Condiments, Oils & Dressings

  • Balsamic Syrup — 1 Tablespoon
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil — 2 Teaspoons

  • Measuring Spoons
  • Paring Knife
  • Serrated Knife

Prep Steps

  1. Use a paring knife to cut the core out of the tomato. Then, use a serrated knife to cut the tomato into 1/2 inch thick slices. You need 2 slices per person.
  2. Pick large basil leaves off the stems.
  3. Slice the mozzarella into 1/4 inch thick slices. You need 2 slices per person.

Cook Steps

  1. Layer the slices of tomato and mozzarella on a serving platter, overlapping them as you go. Insert a whole basil leaf in between every other slice.
  2. Season the tomatoes, mozzarella and basil with salt and pepper. Drizzle the olive oil and balsamic syrup over the top.
  3. The beefsteak tomatoes, mozzarella and basil are ready to eat!
